Breast Reduction is utilized to both reduce the size of the breast and to lift and suspend the breast by resection of skin and breast tissue. The areola is repositioned and reduced as well. Indications for the procedure include the following conditions: back, neck or shoulder pain caused by the heavy sagging breasts, disproportionate breasts relative to your body frame, skin breakdown and irritation beneath the breasts, asymmetric breasts, bra strap grooving of the shoulders and restrictions to your level of activity.
The specific type of reduction to be performed is determined by the size and shape of your breast, and the desired extent of reduction. The procedure is typically done as an outpatient under general anesthesia. The sensation and vascularity to the nipple is preserved in this procedure.
