What to Expect During Your Consultation

Your first visit is a conversation, not a sales pitch. Dr. Brown will discuss your goals, determine whether you’re a good candidate for the procedure you’re considering, and walk through alternative options if they apply. Expect a review of your medical history, a physical examination, and an honest discussion of risks, recovery time, and realistic outcomes. If your procedure may be covered by insurance, Dr. Brown’s office will outline what preoperative approval or supporting documentation is needed from your primary care physician.

Before you leave, you’ll understand the full cost of your procedure, including the surgeon’s fee, anesthesia fee, and any surgical facility costs, so there are no surprises.

Frequently asked questions

Most cosmetic and hand procedures are performed at the Bedford Ambulatory Surgical Center. Reconstructive procedures, and cases requiring a hospital setting, are typically performed at Catholic Medical Center. Overnight stays are available at BASC when needed.

During the initial consult the thrust of the discussion will be directed at determining the best possible approach to meeting your desires and expectations. We will first determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure you are seeking, and then explore all other options. The goal is to provide you with all the information you will need to make an appropriate decision about proceeding with the surgery. This includes all risk and potential complications, time frame with regards to being out of work or away from particular activities, pre and post operative requirements, and expectations with regards to healing and recovery times. It will also include an extensive medical history and a physical examination. Procedures covered by your insurance usually require preoperative approval and may require supporting information from your primary care physician. Pre and post operative pictures of similar patients will also be reviewed with you. Finally the cost of the procedure to include surgeon’s fee, anesthesia’s fee, and the surgical center’s costs will be presented to you.

Payment for cosmetic procedures not covered by insurance is required in full preoperatively. Payment plans are available through CareCredit for all providers involved. CareCredit is an independent company that finances self-pay surgeries and medical procedures.
