Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty in Bedford, NH
Rhinoplasty, or nose reshaping surgery, refines the tip, bridge, or overall structure of the nose to improve proportion and balance with the rest of the face. Dr. Steven L. Brown, a board-certified plastic surgeon, performs rhinoplasty for patients from Bedford, Manchester, and southern New Hampshire.
Cosmetic and Functional Rhinoplasty
Patients choose rhinoplasty to smooth a bump on the bridge, refine a wide or drooping tip, narrow the nostrils, or correct asymmetry. For patients with a deviated septum or other breathing concerns, rhinoplasty can be combined with septoplasty to improve airflow as well as appearance.
About the Procedure
Rhinoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. During your consultation, Dr. Brown evaluates both the cosmetic and functional aspects of your nose and plans the approach with you. Surgery typically takes one to three hours, and you go home the same day.
Recovery and Results
Nasal packing or a splint is typically used after surgery until your follow-up visit. Bruising and swelling around the eyes and nose improve over the first two weeks, and most patients return to work or school within that time. Subtle swelling continues to settle for up to a year as the final shape emerges.
Rhinoplasty FAQs
How long is recovery after rhinoplasty?
Most patients take one to two weeks off from work or school. Strenuous exercise and contact sports should be avoided for several weeks, as directed by Dr. Brown.
When will I see my final results?
You will notice a change once the splint comes off and early swelling fades. Subtle swelling, especially at the tip, can take up to a year to resolve fully.
Will rhinoplasty leave visible scars?
Most incisions are hidden inside the nose. When an open approach is used, a small incision on the skin between the nostrils usually heals to a fine, hard-to-see line.
Can rhinoplasty improve my breathing?
Yes. When a deviated septum or another structural problem affects airflow, septoplasty can be performed at the same time.
Does insurance cover rhinoplasty?
Cosmetic rhinoplasty is not covered. Surgery to correct a breathing problem or an injury may be covered in part, and our office can help verify your benefits and authorization.
