Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Breast Lift in Bedford, NH

A breast lift, or mastopexy, elevates and reshapes breasts that have begun to sag, without necessarily changing breast volume. Dr. Steven L. Brown, a board-certified plastic surgeon, performs breast lift surgery for patients from Bedford, Manchester, and across southern New Hampshire.

Is a Breast Lift Right for You?

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight changes, and aging can all cause the breasts to lose shape and firmness. A breast lift may be right for you if your breasts sag, your nipples point downward or sit below the breast crease, or your areolas have stretched. Patients who also want more fullness can combine a lift with breast augmentation.

About the Procedure

Excess skin is removed and the remaining tissue is reshaped to restore a firmer, more supported contour, with the areola and nipple repositioned and resized as needed. The surgical approach depends on how much excess skin is present and the degree of sag, and is planned individually for each patient. Most mastopexy procedures are performed at the Bedford Ambulatory Surgical Center.

Recovery and Results

Swelling and soreness are common for the first couple of weeks. A supportive bra is worn during healing, and most patients return to desk work within one to two weeks. Strenuous exercise and lifting are typically restricted for four to six weeks. Scars fade gradually, and results are long-lasting with a stable weight. Breast Lift FAQs

What is the difference between a breast lift and breast augmentation?

A breast lift raises and reshapes the breast without necessarily changing its volume. Breast augmentation adds volume with implants. The two are often combined.

Will a breast lift change my breast size?

A lift reshapes and elevates the breast but does not significantly change its size. Some patients find they fit a slightly different bra size afterward.

Will I have scars after a breast lift?

Yes. The incision pattern depends on the degree of lift needed, and Dr. Brown will review this with you. Scars typically fade over time.

Can I have a breast lift before having children?

You can, but pregnancy and breastfeeding may change the results. Many patients choose to wait until their family is complete.

How long is recovery after a breast lift?

Most patients return to desk work in one to two weeks and resume strenuous activity after four to six weeks.
