Blepharoplasty

Abdominal Wall Reconstruction

Dr. Brown frequently works in conjunction with the Cardiac and General surgeons to perform abdominal and chest wall reconstruction. These procedures commonly involve muscle flaps, musculocutaneous flaps, omental flaps, skin grafting, fat grafting, and the use of component separation with biologic mesh. These surgeries are required to correct thoracic problems such as sternal wound infection, sternal dehiscence or non-union, and abdominal problems to include large abdominal wall defects, incisional hernias, and perineal wounds following rectal surgery. Procedures of this complexity are typically performed as an in-patient and commonly require hospitalization for a few days.

About the Procedure

Similar reconstructive procedures are performed to correct upper and lower extremity defects, injuries and complex post-surgical wounds often at the request of the orthopedic and vascular surgeons.

The goal is to provide you with all the information you will need to make an appropriate decision about proceeding with the surgery. This includes all risk and potential complications, time frame with regards to being out of work or away from particular activities, pre and post operative requirements, and expectations with regards to healing and recovery times. It will also include an extensive medical history and a physical examination. Procedures covered by your insurance usually require preoperative approval and may require supporting information from your primary care physician. Pre and post operative pictures of similar patients will also be reviewed with you.
