Nasal surgery performed for the purpose of changing the shape and dimensions of the nose. This can be isolated to just one component of the nose such as the nasal tip, or can incorporate the whole nasal skeleton. It can improve nasal projection, decrease disproportionate components of the nose, augment depressed areas, or work to improve nasal function. It is sometimes coupled with septoplasty to improve airflow in patients with a deviated septum. Preoperative evaluations of nasal function, as well as nasal appearance, are imperative to guarantee a proper result for the patient.
The procedure is done as an outpatient under local with sedation or general anesthesia, and the patient’s nose is often packed or splinted until they are seen for a follow up visit.
